Reaching ten unbroken years with one employer is less about clocking time and more about staying useful, visible, and engaged through reorgs, manager changes, and shifting priorities. The people who make it adapt their role faster than the company changes around them. The reward is deep institutional trust and leverage few colleagues ever accumulate.

1. Re-scope your role every 18-24 months so you are solving the company's current problem, not the one you were hired for
2. Survive reorgs by building relationships two levels up and across departments, not just with your direct manager
3. Keep a running log of wins and tenure milestones so anniversaries and reviews are documented, not vague
4. Periodically benchmark your pay against the external market and renegotiate, so loyalty does not quietly cost you money
5. Take on at least one role or scope change internally to avoid stagnation that pushes long-tenured staff out

Tips

• Long tenure is a liability if your skills froze in year three; treat continuous learning as job security
• Document tribal knowledge you alone hold, it makes you both valuable and harder to lay off
• Watch for the loyalty penalty: switchers often out-earn stayers, so internal raises must keep pace
