Digital Silence: One Month

Completely nuke your social media usage and remain off-grid for 30 consecutive days.

How to complete Digital Silence: One Month

This is a full 30-day blackout from social platforms, not just less scrolling. The point is to break the compulsive checking loop, recover the attention span that constant feeds erode, and find out what you actually do with hours you used to give away. Most people are shocked by how much time reappears.

  1. Log out and delete the apps from your phone (Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit, etc.) instead of just hiding them in a folder
  2. Change your passwords to long random strings you don't memorize, or have a friend hold them, so re-login takes deliberate effort
  3. Set up an autoresponder or post one final 'off for 30 days' note so people aren't worried by your silence
  4. Replace the trigger: when your hand reaches for the phone, have a default action ready (a book on the nightstand, a walk, a real message to a friend)
  5. Track the streak on paper or in Achiever and mark each clean day before bed

Tips

  • The first 72 hours are the worst: phantom reaches and boredom peak, then fade fast
  • Keep messaging apps if you need them, but turn off all notification badges so nothing pulls you back
  • Watch out for substitute scrolling: news sites and YouTube count if you're using them the same compulsive way

What counts as done

Thirty consecutive days with zero logins to any social feed, with the apps gone from your devices the whole time.
