Deadline Met

35 pointscareer & work

Deliver a major project on or before the agreed-upon deadline.

How to complete Deadline Met

Landing a large, multi-part deliverable by its committed date is mostly a scoping and tracking problem, not a heroics problem. The skill is protecting the date by negotiating scope early, not by working unpaid weekends at the end.

  1. Break the project into the smallest shippable chunks and put a date on each, working backward from the final deadline
  2. Identify the two or three tasks that block everything else and start those first
  3. Build in a buffer of 15-20 percent for the things you can't foresee
  4. Flag any slippage the moment you spot it, with a proposed cut or trade, not the day before it's due
  5. Freeze scope in the final stretch and push new requests to a follow-up

Tips

  • A deadline you negotiated beats one you were handed silently agree to nothing you can't math out
  • Cutting scope to hit the date is usually smarter than cutting quality or sleep
  • Demo working pieces along the way so the final delivery holds no surprises

What counts as done

The agreed deliverable is handed over and accepted on or before the date, without a last-minute extension.
