Analysis Paralysis Broken
45 pointsbreaking bad habits
Stop researching the 'perfect' way to do something and just start doing it poorly to get momentum.
How to complete Analysis Paralysis Broken
Endless researching feels productive but is often a sophisticated way to dodge the risk of starting. The point here is to deliberately produce a rough, imperfect first version so you have something real to react to. Momentum and actual feedback beat a perfect plan you never execute.
- Pick the one thing you've been over-researching and set a hard cap: no more input until a first attempt exists.
- Set a small time box (25 to 60 minutes) and make something visibly bad on purpose.
- Lower the bar out loud: the goal is a draft, a prototype, a first rep, not a finished result.
- Push it somewhere slightly hard to undo (send the message, commit the code, post the rough draft) so you can't quietly slip back into research mode.
Tips
- Perfectionism disguises itself as 'I just need to learn a little more first', so name it when you catch it.
- Ugly-and-done gives you real feedback; research only gives you the feedback you imagine.
What counts as done
You have a tangible first attempt at the thing you were stuck researching, created and started before you felt ready.
